"At twenty four she imagined with dread that she was growing old"

Hmm. I just read that quote. Thanks, Jean Rhys. WON'T be reading you to make me feel better in the middle of the night again.

What a great photo that is.
Weird. i just looked up December 7th, and apparently it is 3 years to this very morning since the tornado tore up Kensal Green:

A new love and an old

I have basically given over today to two things. Robert Glasper and Janis Joplin. An unlikely but stellar duo, it turns out. (Thank you to the someone who provoked me into listening to Robert for the first time after Sunday's Jazz Voicelab at the Southbank Centre. And thank you to the inventor of shuffle for taking me back to my first love affair with Janis when I was about 11.)

I heard someone listening to Christmas Carols on the train this morning. Good King Wenceslas on a Tuesday morning in November? Curiouser and curiouser.

200 Downloads and counting!

We have reached 200 downloads! 202, actually...

"...and counting?" Well, obviously, if you've counted to 200...

Idiot.

Keep going, keep listening, keep forcing others to listen.

A good day.

I had a day off work today. I promised myself it would be full of new music. Firstly - the Mumford & Sons album, which I wanted to dislike but don't at all because it's very good. Only one listen through so far, but I'm intrigued. Secondly, some Elvis Costello, Secret Profane and Sugarcane (not strictly new but still SO SO good) (also this was on new headphones so even better). Then, after a very overdue catch up with an excellent friend who had very good news, some excellent Brahms at the Royal Academy, and some excellent pasta, my first real listen to Sara Schiralli, on a friend's recommendation. She is really very very good. Oh alright then, excellent. And on her myspace it says unsigned?! Shocking. Sad we missed her with Martha Wainwright at the Hawley Arms on Monday... for a future podcast I hope?! Yes please.

some excellent moustaches

These were on a record sleeve that a friend found. They're no everyday facial hairs... And how about that chap in the eyepatch? Pretty good.

No microphones, no pressure and no practice

Last night, we played at Battersea Arts Centre with some of the Tree of Lost Things crew (find out more here: http://www.ignoretheforcast.co.uk). It wasn't quite a gig - but we played songs we knew (some), some plays we vaguely remembered (most) and songs we hadn't ever played before (one or two). It was a real treat - more to come, fo sho.

Tomorrow is Bonfire Night. There will be fireworks outside.

Some other things what we talked about

Jarvis's arty Happening. That's really what he's calling it... More details here:

http://www.timeout.com/london/connect/music/blog/177/jarvis-does-art-when-musicians-diversitfy

I like how in that link they've spelt diversify wrong - and because you can't change the address of the page, it's going to be like that for EVER.

Saturday is Treat Day (not just when it is podcast day)

...which means, by law, sitting about in pyjamas, and getting out the oversized cutlery... (just in case you thought the fork was a one off. It isn't.)
November's gig diary will be up tonight, as will some links to some excellent things to do with the oncoming winter evenings, and all those minutes when you're not listening to the delectable episode 2. Until then, then.

Wednesday, 28 October 2009

Episode Two is in the can

What fun we had arsing around of a Saturday morning (afternoon, and early evening). What to expect? Extendable cutlery, peevish Penny Farthing riders, a long-overdue boon for bagel-eaters and no fewer than two competitions. With music from Mary Bowers, Sunday Driver, The Teak Project, Lola & the Clic and EBRT-FMC.

Start getting excited right about now.

!!EPISODE ONE IS IN THE CAN!!

And it turns out that we're much more talkative than we thought...

So, after some very ruthless editing, we'll have our first episode ready for you, replete with music from Kyla la Grange (myspace.com/kylalagrange), Tone & the Spartans (myspace.com/musictonyv) and Oliver Talkes (guess).

Also expect an awful lot of bullshit. Sorry - comedy gold. Expect that.

*Announced EXCLUSIVELY today*

Hollyoaks supports unsigned bands!

http://www.theunsignedguide.com/news/item.asp?id=622

Well, thank Dickens. So hurry hurry, to the next link - which lets you sign up to be one of the lucky few...

http://www.e4.com/hollyoaks/hollyoaksmusicshowwithmatalan/

Uh oh. The competition is already closed. You'll have to stick with The Silver Lining instead. Welcome sirs, and welcome again.

I can't quite believe my first post is about Hollyoaks. I've changed. (I haven't)

(I am wearing a dress though)

(I really am)

This Evenings Love

Love reaffirmed for Bill Frisell's Disfarmer and David's Scary Monsters (as if it needed to be). Teenage Wildlife is a great song - so is Peter Miller's Discovery (and Shutter, Dream). But I mustn't go on, partly because

the list would be too long...

...and partly because neither of these men will feature on Silver Lining Podcast anytime soon as they both have very secure, very lucrative record contracts.

But who knows what might happen in the second series.

Myth.

The Podcast is Coming

We've planned it and everything. With bullet points. Try not to soil yourself.

A taster: a planned regular feature on the show, 'Pet Peeves,' is to include such tiresome bugbears as walking into spiders webs, being confronted by militant mothers with prams, bad jam (bam), and horne & corden.

Just the sort of gold (bronze) you can come to expect (it'll be much better).

Hold your breath! (but don't die)
